Bass combo power!

Hi all, I have just sold my Hughes And Kettner basskick515 combo and am now shopping around for its replacement, but I have a question.

The HK was 200 watts, 15 inch speaker and speaker out for an additional 8 ohms cab.
Does that mean that the combo hasn't been working at its maximum potential with only the built in speaker?

Not necessarily. Depeding on the load presented to the amp by internal speaker + extra cabinet, the power can go up or down. But that feature, the way I see it, is to be thought of as "I like the tone, but I can't hear myself". No matter how the power scales, you will get more volume from internal+extension than just from internal.

Yes.

You needed to add an additional 8ohm cab so that the amp ran at 4ohms to get the maximum potential output power.
