Bass compression

Ok...I need some suggestions. I play in a Metal band...I am running an Ashdown Blue model head through an Ampeg cab. I am really satusfied with my overall tone but I really think I can benefit from some compression to add some overall attack, note separation and just to level out the peaks and valleys. My Blue model head is the older one before they added an on board compressor...so can anyone suggest to me a good...but not too expensive compressor to add to my effects? I was looking at a few that seemed pretty good and in my price rangs of about $100 but I'd like to hear from some people that may have used some of these before I just go and order one. Thanks!!

That ovnilab site is super comprehensive and has been helpful...so thanks. I was also looking for...hopefully...a few others that possibly play a similar style of music that I do to say "hey...these have been my experiences...this is what I've found is the best" Although after all the research I have been doing...I might just hold off a bit...save a little extra cash and go with a markbass...I have not read a bad thing about them yet...
