BASS CORD?

At this stage, most any instrument cable will do you just fine. There are alot of different brands and qualities, but I wouldn't stress too much about it until you really know if you're going to stick with it or not. By that point, you'll know exactly what you want. I use a $4 Wal-Mart cable to practice through my computer.
You don't need to shell out big cash for a decent cable. Try to find something inexpensive, but it's always a bonus if it comes with a lifetime warranty, which many cables do. It'll say on the package whether it does or not.
Any halfway decent cable will give you plenty of good use if you take care of it.

Also, am I the only one with a little twinge when people call them "cords" and not "cables?" I had an instructor years ago who used to get really frustrated and say, "chords are played on the instrument, cables are plugged into the instrument."

no sound quality difference, just different cable and connector qualities, don't pay out the nose for sound quality marketing hype. Butch at bayoucables.com makes very good instrument cables, with a lifetime warranty.
Just get something that is at least 10'. 20 should serve you in most cases.

10 feet will tie you to one spot; get 15-feet length. Good purchase on that Cirrus. Again, like another poster said, DON'T get a coiled cord/cable. Buy more than one cable, different brands and determine which one you like. My Peavey sounds its best through Live Wire, but I can't explain why; my MTD Artist, not so much.

I like an "L" connector at one end--the end that goes into the bass. Straight connector at the other end.
I like metal ends, instead of plastic ends. You can re-solder a metal end. You may need to, if you are moving around on stage, and stand on your cable while you move your bass, and wind up giving the cable a good tug.
Also, coiled cables, when they get tangled, are REALLY hard to untangle. Straight cables are much easier.

Go to the Thanksgiving GC blow-out sale where they have bins of cables for $10 apiece and get either a Monster or a Mogami. That way, you'll never have to pay for a new cable. Don't pay full price for them though. I've gotten hundreds of dollars worth of instrument, mic and speaker cables for pennies on the dollar. If you get it home and it doesn't work, take it back and get a brand new one.

Our guitard always referred to a tuner as a "fish".
if you plug it into the bass and the amp (try going for the right holes), then turn the volume up on both, and play your bass and you can hear it, you're good.
