Bass Distortion/Overdrive In Interesting Settings

Can anyone show me examples of bass distortion/overdrive being used in music where you wouldn't typically expect it to be used? I know those old records have a bit of distortion on the bass that just came from driving it hard (James Jamerson and the like), but I'm looking for something a little more modern.

Any suggestions?

There are many great examples of overdrive and distortion used on bass. since you're looking for something a little more modern, rooster by alice in chains would be a good start. mike starr uses modulation(I believe it's a flanger) during the verse and pre-chorus parts and in the chorus(2:09), he kicks in some distortion giving it a radical distorted bass sound. here's the Isolated bass track to the song.

I don't know, I don't read the OP asking for overdrive/distortion on bass. He's asking for overdrive/distortion on bass where you wouldn't expect it. The rock/grunge/heavy metal-ish Alice In Chains doesn't seem unexpected. With that said, Rooster (and its chorus) are tasty

Oh...I thought that he was looking for songs where distortion is used. so that he can get an Idea on what sounds he's looking for. Personally I was surprised that mike starr used distortion during the chorus part in rooster. I was also surprised to learn that he used a flanger in the song them bones. even though it's unnoticeable in the song, but in the Isolated bass track you, you can hear it.

So it was a chorus effect he was using for rooster, huh. couldn't tell at first cause some choruses do sound flanger like. still, it sounds pretty cool.

Oh! No, I meant 'chorus' as in song structure, not effect. No, I'm with you 100%, the flanger and Mike Starr's use of effects is great
