Bass Distortion/Overdrive In Interesting Settings

Okay, I found the song "The Fool". It was covered by Elvis, but the artist I heard cover it isn't Elvis, so naturally I didn't think it was the correct song and I was ignoring all the clips/references to this particular song. The original is by Sanford Clark, but doesn't have fuzz bass. I've listened to about a dozen versions of "The Fool" and still can't find the one I'm after...

given that this guy's tone is usually very clean, and their music is often much heavier, i always thought it was an interesting choice to use overdrive on this song.

There are many reggae tunes with (slightly) overdriven bass but these ones kinda stand out:





A lot of the earlier recordings from Randy's Recording Studio 17 have this kind of
overdrive going on, the second tune I posted was actually recorded there.

I'm thinking of the gis ghost track on Esbjörn Svensson Trio's "Good Morning Susie Soho", where they play a piano trio version of an excerpt of "Rite Of Spring" by Stravinsky. Dan Berglund plays heavily overdriven double-bass there..

The first known recording of fuzz bass, Marty Robbins' "Don't Worry".



Fuzz kicks in at 1:25 thereabouts... disappears and comes in again at the end.

This always will be the most unexpected place for bass distortion.
