Bass EQ question

I have an active bass with a 3 band eq preamp and my amp has a parametric EQ.
Someone told me to set the amp EQ dails to 12 o'clock and use the basses 3 band EQ to
fine tune to my taste. I tried it and it was just ok sounding. Any and all advice is really appreciated. Thanks all

I would set amp EQ to your preference [if flat so be it] each Venue may need some type of adjustment.

Then use EQ on Bass for subtle adjustment if needed for individual songs.

That's kinda what I thought originally, so thanks for the good advice and confermation!

Those two preamps could have same functionalities, or not (different EQ points and Q).
If not, they could complement each other.
I typicaly use guitar onboard EQ to get "my sound", and amp EQ to compesate stage acoustics.
Between my guitar and amp there is usualy DI for sound guy, so I could up a little bass onboard (to make band sound fuller), and vary treble (up for slap, flat for fingerstyle). That's the signal he is using for PA. Than, if stage is boomy, cut bass on amp EQ...
Anytime you are unsure what to do, set everything flat, and just add a little bass. Don't overdo EQ, it's a road to muddy sound.
