Double Bass Bass Excerpt Website

I stumbled upon this website for trumpet the other day:

http://www.trumpetexcerpts.org/index.html

It's fantastic. It lists all the major orchestral trumpet excerpts and has multiple recording excerpts for each piece. On top of all of that, it is nicely laid out and easy to use.

Someone needs to do this for bass.

There's a trombone one as well- a few friends live by it. Hopefully a great bassist with a lot of free time does one of these.

It would be possible in a community sense as well. If somebody has a domain that they are willing to share access to. That way anybody with an extensive excerpt collection and a notation program could post jpegs and, with the multitude of home studios, recordings (if the poster is not so bold other bassists could lend their recordings).

Would be a great tool for those of us still aspiring to orchestra positions.

I do not have a domain, but I have recording access and would be happy to submit some orchestral excerpts. Not sure if anybody would want to use them as a bench mark, but it would probably make a lot of you feel great about your progress.

Barring this, a compilation site or sticky for approved youtube excerpts. I know I rely heavily on the Hal Robinson youtube videos whenever I am learning something new.

If I had the resources to maintain a website, I'd certainly offer it. Another option is for someone to make a blogger/tumblr or something to that effect and host links to performances there- I'm sure there are free options besides needing to own and maintain a domain name.

There is a wiki on orchestral technique here on talkbass:

http://www.talkbass.com/wiki/index.php/Orchestral_technique

It's got a long list of popular excerpts. Upload a recording to youtube or soundcloud and post it in the wiki. That or make a pdf or image and link it.

That looks like a good location to me. Just need to link up to youtube or sound clips of great players, and post some pdf's for the notation. I may try to link up and post tonight.

Excellent, that wiki is good but could use a lot more work. It's now in the stickies thanks to Chris F., so it might be more obvious for those who are looking for info on excerpts. If you want to discuss more on the wiki we should move to the wiki thread (in the stickies).
