bass for a small player

im a really small bass player, and is considering on buying a new 4-string bass. so anyone got any idea of which bass i should go for? xD

i was thinking about a thunderbird iv, but have heard that its nothing for the smaller ones o.o

I bought an Epiphone EB0 from MF a couple of years ago. It is a short scale (30") and the neck is very narrow. You can usually get them for around $200. You might want to check one out.

There was a favorable review of the Ibanez Mikro bass on this board not too long ago, 28.5" scale.

Although I have never played one, the 32" scale on a Kubicki EX Factor would probably feel pretty comfortable.

Price point aside, the point was that us smaller folk don't necessarily need a smaller bass. I play a lot on a short scale Rob Allen bass, but I also play a lot on 35" scale 4-6 string basses. Good form makes them work well for me.

well i didnt mean that i want a bass specially made for a small person (soz, if any misunderstanding) ^^ i was just wondering if anyone know any bass that may be more suitable than some others for a small player, as i read on reviews about thunderbird iv that theyre especially good for big players.

The Urge Standard is good for smaller players. 32" scale and very light with absolutely zero neck dive!

I had one, not that I needed it because of size issues (I prefer 34" scale basses and I'm 6" tall, not that that makes a difference).

And don't ever let anyone tell you that playing a smaller scale bass is for wusses or whatever. Stanley Clarke is huge, he's like 6"4' or something and he has played a 30" scale Alembic as his main bass for over 30 years! Conversely, he has played upright even longer. Whatever feels good!

Now that I've done that I have to offer something and I can say that I really enjoyed playing the Gretsch G2202. It's a 30" scale and I liked it alot, it felt kind of small for me, but I usually play a 34" bass, so take that as you will.

I think you missed the difference between " (inches) and ' (feet). If you really are 6" tall, that IS pretty incredible.

Possibly a short scale bass? Depending on your budget, look into Fender Mustang (old or reissue), Danelectro (long horn, '63 reissue), Birdsong and Gibson SG (old or reissue), to name just a few.

Here's a pic from the NAMM with the first one he built. I know he is now taking orders and I played the bass at the show and was very favorably impressed with the sound, playability and workmanship. Good luck with your search.
