A garage Band?--- a Mosrite or Kay would fit -you probably want a basher not a Boutique.
A squire Jaguar maybe?

Hi, I'm planing to play garage but I can't find the perfect one yet my thoughts are on a squier mustang bass and on a squier vintage modified pbass(pj pickups)
Tip: find a place that does carpets and get some big scrap pieces pulled out of somebody's living room. Hang them from the ceiling about 12" off the wall. Cheap and surprisingly effective sound deadening.
I'm of the "Basement Band" generation I guess

my vote is for the greenA good one would be the Ibanez Talman. It's cheap and built well, so not only would you not be afraid to put a dent or two in it, it also plays comfortably.
The sound is pretty Fender-like. They both have 2-band EQ preamps, however the TMB300 has an extra switch for coil-splitting.
