Bass found in the trash

Yes you read it right. But not found by me but by my terrific Mom. She was driving along and out of the corner of her eye she spots this Royce sg copy bass upside down in a garbage pail. O.K. It needs alot of work but first off i checked the electronics and the three way switch needs some spray cleaner or i might just replace it. Hey it works and sounds cool with an A string i had lying around. Needs a D tuning machine. Oy where am i gonna find that? I will put some flats on her and check the neck. so enjoy the picture.

Nice! Maybe she can find one for me too? I'd probably just put a new set of tuners on rather than trying to find one to match the existing ones.

I would've pulled it out of the trash too. Assuming there's no bugs living inside it (I'd check if I were you), I'd take it home. Four new cheapo tuners (or used if you can find'em) shouldn't set you back too much. Buy some cheap strings and you've got a player.

There's a guy here who saw what he thought was an EB-3 in its case in a trash can while driving down the street. He aid he would have had to double park to get out and get it. So he drove down further to be a law abiding citizen and when he checked his rearview mirror to make the parallel park, he saw someone else do the double park, open the case, pull out the EB-3, look around, stuff the case and bass in his car, and drive off.

Thank God your mom got this one lol.

Man, found in the trash basses are the best! I have one you guys won't believe: I used to work with a guy, he comes in one day with a beat up p-bass, it's been routed out to hold this big homemade copper shielding unit, the horns had been cut deeper into the body, the original electronics were long gone and it had a couple of cream colored Gibson pickups in it. Neck is in good shape, but clearly old, and the face of the familiar looking headstock has been painted with the same grey primer that adorned the now mangled body. He says he's looking to sell it, so I offered him $50, which he accepts. I knew it was a Fender; but I thought maybe a MIM. I figure it would be fun to mess around with, maybe a cool project bass. I get home and take the neck off, it's stamped 5SEP65C. Yes folks, a 1965 Fender Precision. Beat up, yes; altered, for sure. But man, I couldn't believe it! At that point I didn't have the heart to mangle it any more than it had already been, and turned out the restoration was a more expensive project than I could handle, so I parted it out and sold it on e-bay. Here's what I got for the various pieces:

Body + shielding unit - $276
Neck - $692
Gibson humbuckers (turned out to be 2 low impedance pickups from 70's era Gibson Les Paul Signature basses, who knew?!?) $424
Serial number plate and screws (L70027) - $220
Original reverse style Fender tuners & string "T" w/screws - $220

For a grand total of $1832!!! Easiset money I ever made. And definately my "score of a lifetime" story!:bassist:

Thats funny, just yesterday I watched episode of document series about Czech rock music and one guy told story there that they were on tour in Germany in 70's and at one gig he saw, behind the stage, leaned against the wall, SG guitar all painted in red with some paint. It was all covered, even the strings. So he asked some guy in charge and bought it for few bucks. Needles to say, it was genuing american Gibson SG. So they got it repaired and stuff and gave it to the band's bass player (thats the bass connection here :) so he could started to play on guitar with them (they needed it at the time somehow). It looks like people dont like SG's somehow :).
