I don't understand the obsession with blend knobs on dirt pedals. If the pedal doesn't have enough low end, get one that does rather than diluting the dirt tone with your "clean" tone.

I totally agree. In concept, I have always loved the idea of a blend. In practice, though, it's kind of the worst of both worlds. Just make an OD/Fuzz that sounds good on bass!

However, bass modulation like phase or envelope should always have a blend.
It's terrible. Second in terribleness to having to use my PC or a mobile app to be able to edit settings *cough Source Audio*.
This actually almost caused an argument at a rehearsal. The band leader was obsessed with the pedal when Darkglass announced it and was watching the videos. I said something to the effect of, "it's cool but I just got my DI-2112, so I'll just roll with that" and he responded responded "just sell it and the other new pedal you just got and get this." Thankfully, our drummer jumped in and said "nah, what we have is working really well right now."
We need a touchscreen device with an intuitive interface designed to be used with shod feet.
Yeah at this point the Dingwall + Darkglass combo is a meme like Tort.
Pretty much anything "programmable" is a non-starter here.
Sometimes low end loss isn't a bad thing...

I love the blends knobs on my Darkglass pedal and amp. I may err on the side of cleanliness from time to time, but I have no problem "diluting" my dirt tone, which is almost self-contradictory.
I'm also happy to lay into a Super Fuzz or gated fuzz without a blend, but I like the blend.

Despite what some have said here adding a blend to any part of your signal chain makes total sense. You want to find your unique voice.

Really? Metal, with its vast array of subgenres which all sound different, isn't about sounding different? Okaaaaayyy...
Seriously though, the exact same thing can be said of any genre that is recognizable as a genre. To me, all reggae, rap, country, buttrock, radiopop et al all sound the same. Talk about music that "was seldom about sounding different", look no further than whatever mass-produced saccharine bubblegum pop tunes are currently in the top ten
