Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I have a question for Mr. Bowlus if you would know or can recall.

Can you elaborate how the RH450's frequency responses were tested? Specifically, I'm curious where you guys took the signal from on of the RH450, the preamp out, the headphone out, the DI, or with something feeding off the power output like a speaker DI?

I ask because in my recent testing of the RH750 (which sounds just like the 450 to my ear), I can't get that response curve you have in the magazine from anything except for the headphone out, where it is identical to what was printed. The headphone out that TC describes as having a filter on it definitely attenuates lows and highs. I just haven't seen that same thing anywhere else. In fact, the head tests almost completely flat in every other way.

I'm kind of curious if I'm doing something wrong here, but test after test I get the same result. My RH450 isn't here with me at the moment, so I can't test it, but when I get it back soon I'm going to compare these two. It seems odd to me that the headphone out has the same response as what is in the magazine unless that filter is also applied to the signal going into the power amp on the RH450 as well.

I'm pretty sure that Tom Lees takes this measurement at the speaker output, while the head is driving an appropriate dummy load. But I will double check with him to be sure.

Thanks, Tom. I'm thinking that the same filter has to be applied to that signal going into the power section, because the head definitely has a mid-range character and darkness to it, but the preamp out (FX send) is totally flat. According to TC block diagram of the signal flow, there is no mention of anything beyond the preamp being done to the tone, and the preamp out and DI out both branch off at the same point, which is before the APM. Very interesting.
