Bass Guitar Brands

:hmm:I'm looking into buying a Bass Guitar for my boyfriend for his bithday, but have no idea where to start. What are the better brands to go with? Is acustic or electric better? If Electric is better what kind of amp is best? I've just got questons questions and more questions!

I'm not a big fan of blindly getting someone an instrument as there may be a certain feel and tone they're looking for.

Best bet would be to blind fold him, take him to the music shop and just tell him to pick one out within your budget.

I'm not really sure if he's a beginner or not. He had one a few years ago, but his ex gave him an ultimatum, and he got rid of it. I know he played on stage for a few min when Sum 41 pulled him up on stage from the crowd forever ago at end fest. He listens mostly to metal music, and sometimes industrial. Like a few posted, taking him somewhere and having him pick it out might be the best best. I just really want to suprise him.

It's probably best to tell him you are going to buy him one and drag him to a local music store. This way he can pick out what he likes.

It's hard to buy a bass for someone because there are so many preferences bass players have, a few being brand, number of strings, weight, sound, tone and type of neck.

Might be able to pull him into a music store and just look around a bit. See what ones he gets really excited about. Bring that information here and you'll get a lot of feedback on what a cheaper version of the particular bass was that he got excited about. This also depends on how much time you have.

Though being on a budget, it'd probably be easier just not have this one be a surprise and let him know you're getting him a bass.

If you want to surprise him, Why don't you get him a value pack. This is a package that comes with a bass, amp, strap, tunners and other things. It's not the best bass in the world but it's a good start and I'm sure he'll like it. If he doesn't, then just return it and he can get what he wants. Here's a few links.

This is a list of a few:

Here are some that look good to me:

Now you have a place to start, and don't take him to the music shop. You'll ruin the surprise.
