Hi all, Today I starting working on the Phoenix design. Here is the initial try which is a graceful figure suggesting strength. I will reduce the size of the tail. I plan on incorporating the tail design somehow into the bridge and tailpiece. I like the way the wings suggest a heart shape. What do you think of the initial design?View attachment 3821650

I love that Phoenix... and I (personally) would be inclined to inlay that in various shades of gold mother of pearl.

Also you could still incorporate the "shedding of tears"... by making the fingerboard dots teardrops,... maybe in some nice blue Paua abalone.

You can put that on a violin shaped instrument rather easily. The head would be in the lower bout though

Scoop, that is a really good suggestion for the violin shape because the Phoenix would fit well on it. Even though I have designed and built this style, I hadn't thought of it for the Tribute design. Are you suggesting that the Phoenix's head be towards the tail end?

Here's a rendering of my latest violin design called the DeNovo. I've made a few that are slightly different and I personally like the size. I need to find pickups that will work to reduce the amount of them showing on the front of the bass. I've asked the electronics forum for suggestions and while they had some good ideas, I haven't found exactly what I need. Aztec has some huge sidewinder pickups. The face plate could be removed and the keeper modified for the 13 mm string spacing (like a Hofner). I just want pole pieces to stick out of the front. Also, I think this should be string through style or the bridge holds the strings. Or I could just use a standard bridge, but the neck is a lot wider. View attachment 3828368
