You want your basses to be P basses or MM Stingrays, the latter being less important.

As for your amp, get a good sized Ampeg rig. P-bass + Ampeg = Classic punk sound.

Yup. Furthermore, in my experience, the P-Bass is a fine instrument for just about any other genre of music as well.
