Bass guitar to buy

Hello, guys. I'm currently learning how to play bass and I'm looking for one to buy. What would you guys recommend? 4-string or 5-string? What model? I'm currently looking at Cort curbow 42 or 52 bass at my local shop. Btw bands, whose songs I'd like to play : Rage against the machine, Three Days Grace, Blac veil Brides, Avenged Sevenfold, Disturbed, Saliva, Breaking Benjamin, Korn, System Of A Down, Limp Bizkit, Seether, Puddle Of Mudd, Rise Against, Sum 41, The Offspring, Blink-182, Bad Religion, Five Finger Death Punch, Slipknot, Maximum The Hormone, Skillet, Evanescense, Foo fighters, Nirvana, Alien Ant Farm,Daughtry and more... Thanks ^^ (Btw the color of guitar I'd like to get would be black, and the cost would be around 600 $ oh and smaller bass would be very nice, cause my hands are pretty tiny)

Keep in mind that half those bands you posted are in drop tunings, which means they are lower than standard. Breaking Benjamin is way down there. Just make sure you have your bass set up for drop tunings or you will have issues.

I'm betting a lot of those bassists are playing five strings rather than drop tuning a 4 string. I would think a 5 string active P bass would cover just about all that music. 5 string seems to be the way everyone is going these days, might as well go that route if you are just starting out.

So, you would recommend to get 5-string for me too? Or try to drop a 4-string bass? Drop B should be quite extreme on 4 string, shouldn't it?

you may as well get a 5 stringer, with all those alt tuning bands you like,you will be forever re-tuning a 4 every other song hehe

I would definitely look into a five string if you are looking at this kind of music. I'm pretty sure that you'll find that most of these modern rock bassists do. Thats what I used when my band covered three days grace and rev theory.

I heard that there are 4-string that are made with tuning as 5-string. Would it be an option?

You can use thicker gauge strings and tune a 4 string BEAD, yeah. I personally just stick with a 5 string. For your budget and interests, I'd recommend a Schecter Stiletto, 4 or 5 string. They're around 700 US new, but you can find them around 300-400 used.

I recommend a PBass for like everything... But for that style you can get away with many 'budget' basses like Schecter, ltd, dbz, Ibanez and get a great tone... Or if you wanna drop some cash, get a stingray 5

My typical advice would be to get a 4-string, but based on the rep you are interested in, I'd say go for the 5 rather than take all your time up changing your tunings.

Check out the Ibanez SR505 five string too. I think it's the best deal for the money out there for the versatility of it. Very light weight and fast neck.

Yes, I'd say go with a fiver. Don't worry about your small hands. Develop good technique and it won't be an issue. Do you have a teacher?

I bought a spector legend 5 for $250 recently so they can be found cheap if you look. Save your money and find a good MIM pbass later on for your standard tuning stuff.
