It's a bit vague. The whole forum is about bass guitars.
"Help me identify this bass guitar" would be more useful, but hey... your title worked just fine!

The base of the neck pocket also looks a little rough. It's not as clean as someone who had used a router with the neck pocket jig many times, in my view, and certainly not CNC level.Based on the shape of the control cavity, and that the cavity cover appears to attach above the plane of the body rather than being recessed into the body, I would guess this is an amateur build, or at least one of the builder's very early efforts. Looks like quite a tangle of wires in there too, and what looks to be a preamp wrapped in electrical tape?
Overall it seems to be a pretty decent instrument though. Might be a really nice player. There's a lot of people here who like a good mystery; hopefully someone has a better answer for you.
Nevertheless, it looks quite good when assembled.
Yeah, good find ("suche" just means "(I'm) looking for", "wanted").
Vester was an import brand of the Samuel Music Company in Illinois, so maybe that's what the S stands for. Or the Korean manufacturer, which was Saehan (now known as Sunghan).
The Argus name was also used for another Vester model that looked quite different.

Thanks. I was wondering if "Suche" was where the S came from, but as it seemed to be an even closer match to Steve's bass than the first Argus example I found, I was wondering if it was a deviation in the product line. Further searches found examples of the Argus with LED dot markers that looked pretty cool. I also found an Argus guitar, but it looks different (although still pointy). There's also the possibility that this was an unsanctioned build by a factory employee. (I once had an "Alembic" that was a result of an employee side-build.)
Vester has an interesting history and some enthusiastic fans. It looks like many of their instruments closely resemble products from more well-known manufacturers; I've seen examples of Fender, Warwick, and Ibanez clones. It's possible that this Argus is based upon something else, which is perhaps why it looks so familiar to many of us.

That's kind of the obvious scenario - GC overestimating the goods to possibly earn a bigger commission if successfully sold at that price.

GC never offered me that price. They just said a price range to sell it for of i wanted to sell it.
For some reason, this thread popped into my mind today. @Steve carleson, did you decide what to do with the bass?
I'm sure you have a lot on your plate. If you can, update us when you decide. I'm still a fan of giving it to your son. A possible alternative to having your husband sign the bass would be to add some "provenance" that you could have him sign and give to him with the bass.
