TB has many levels of bass player. Many here are professional musicians who are in a position to buy, sell, trade some very nice instruments. Many are hobbyists with disposable income, and a penchant for pretty basses.
Shaming people for making purchases they need, or want is futile.
There are a thousand threads on set up, maintenance, neck shapes, and electronics, so my guess would be that when an experienced player says, "Fast action, and slim neck, passive pickups" most here would know what that means for that model.
Few will buy an instrument without ever played something similar, and knowing that the bass they buy will be what they expect. Nobody would buy an Alembic without being pretty sure they like the activators, and the feel of the Alembic line of basses.
A Lull neck, or a Wal neck might not be everyone's cup of tea, but those looking for a Lull, or a Wal know what's in store for them. Everyone is pretty clear what a 7ender will be like given their own personal setup.
I'd be surprised if anyone on TB tried to pass off a "Chibson" or similar knock-off to their peers. I doubt anyone could get away with it here. Check the classifieds for numerous mentions of "Decal added by me to this cleverly relic'd parts bass" rather than "This is a real vintage 7ender....honest it is, guv'nor."
That the OP wouldn't buy a high-end bass has no bearing on the deals I see here every day.
