I'm not judging , there's no hatred here.
I would never buy a HIGH END ridiculously expensive bass
Of which there are so many listed here.
Used or new .
Why would any bass player buy an extremely expensive Bass without playing it 1st ?
NO matter if a FODERA , ALEMBIC , DINGWALL
Rickenbacker , KEN SMITH , to name a few.
No matter what make of Bass , there's an exact copy , I'm talkin original factory specs or close enuf to original.
I personally know of 2 people that have been doing this for years now ,they buy copies of expensive basses , for next to nothing , then sell the copies online as being the authentic whatever make of bass .
Just Pay attention , do real research before ya buy .
Remember
If it sounds too good to be true ,
It usually is
And buying a top shelf bass , or any bass for that matter sight unseen , never played by U or held ,in your hands or even heard how it sounds.
Is askin for it !!!!

I must be very lucky. I own 6 basses at the present time and didn’t play a single one before the arrived at my house. Two were brand new. My 2006 L2500 from a private seller, and my Squire 50s pbass from Sweetwater.
Caution and do diligence is needed and if returns are not accepted that is a red flag, but I have no regrets.

I only have one experience buying a high-end bass here and my experience was ... luke warm.

I believe the seller lied to me (because he made two statements which were in direct conflict with each other) about a small(ish) issue with the delivered product. It cost me an extra $130 (USD) to get fixed which made a pretty good deal a mediocre deal.

Anywhere one spends a lot of money for "sight un-seen" merchandise (we deal with sound, mostly, of course), caveat emptor is the rule of the day.

That said, there are many people whose only chance at a high-end instrument is through the used market. Of course there are benefits to just tightening the belt and toughing it out until we can buy new, but not everyone can do that.

Lastly, something a brilliant man I know once told me: "All general statements are automatically wrong (except this one)."

I currently have 21 basses ALL of which were bought sight unseen. I would do it over again & again. If I bought local I’d be severely limited in my city.

If you buy from a brick & mortar, in all likelihood you’ll have to help pay overhead, rent, utilities etc. not mention sales tax. You buy from here, you’ll pay for shipping and that’s it. I’ve had no issues with any of the basses I’ve gotten on this forum and that’s easily a good 15-18.

I think the majority of the populous on the forum want to do the right thing.

Your point is well taken to do your homework and know what you're buying and as much as possible, who you are buying from. If you go into a deal with knowledge and your eyes wide open, it will be fine the vast majority of the time.

To each their own. There is always going to be the minority that ruin it for the majority. The very few scammers here on TB will tarnish the reputation as a whole.

I've had nothing but great experiences here on TB, but agree that due diligence is mandatory. If I saw a custom Fodera listed for $2000, I would automatically be suspicious, to say the least.
