Bass in a year. Is this possible?

The question is: How interested in this gig are you? 1 year is plenty of time if your willing to really focus and get it down. You already play guitar and if that's something you're more interested in you may not be willing to focus on playing bass seriously.

To answer your question though, I'd say a year is more then enough time to learn what you need.

It's entirely do-able.

If I could offer you one piece of advice, it's this; practice with the band as often as possible. Not only will you catch on more quickly, but you'll learn your role in the band, which will have you learning in leaps and bounds. Once you understand your place, and how you fit in with the band, everything else will become so much easier.
