Double Bass Bass Insurance

Eric,

Amica paid for your bass after it "self-destructed?" What kind of loss did they call that? Also, what would happen if your bass were damaged at a paying gig?

I don't know how Amica classified the loss.

I also don't know what policy one would use as a working pro or how an incident would be classified in that case; for the few years that I was playing professionally, as a callow youth, I did not have insurance on my bass and bow.

Truly, the credit for the fact that I had both insured, frankly, should go to my wife. She suggested that we carry both items on our homeowner's policy.

Eric,

Thanks for the follow-up. I asked because, although I sure would not classify myself as, or be classified by folks here as, a working pro, I sure do play paying gigs. I was always skittish about any loss that might occur at one of those if my homeowner's were my only protection. That's because, at least for the policies I've seen and had, you basically have to say that you are not using the instrument to generate income. With Clarion, there just is no issue and I consider the premium to be money well spent. For sure, your choice has worked and is working for you. :)

Yep. I use them on my URB's and slab basses. Be advised, I was informed that URB insurance will increase next year due to the number of claims.

I have been pleased with the customer service and terms & conditions with this insurance group. Fully covered during and to-from gigs. Good luck with your search.

Anderson Group has a deal with ISB. A friend recommended them. I just applied online two days ago and I'm expecting to hear back from them today. Anyone here using them?

Anderson has competitive quotes. I've only heard good things about them. With my ISB membership, they quoted me around $330/year for $46,000 of equipment. That was $9500 for my upright, $4500 for my EUB, $8400 in bows, and the rest for electric basses/guitars and amps, etc. They have a $500 deductible.

I went with Clarion, and was VERY Impressed with them! I highly recommend Clarion.

For the same equipment, my quote was $298. Includes worldwide coverage, and coverage when I ship my equipment (which is nice when shipping an expensive bow for a re-hair job - don't have to add extra UPS insurance). Pays for rental if an instrument is in being repaired. Deductible on my upright is higher ($1000) but no deductible on my electric basses and guitars.
