I have played only one j-bass that a friend had made, and one of the GP's in my band has a custom Tele. That Tele has to be the best sounding guitar I have ever heard in person. The bass was a true pleasure to play in terms of weight, balance and feel and sounded superb. IME.

There is a waiting list for custom builds, as likely there are at many other shops.

Seems like the OP might have just wanted to start a thread vs actually looking for feedback.

Simply saying "I want a custom Jazz style bass" or "I am looking for an 8 string coffee table bass" would clear things way up.

no, im actually looking for feedback. i want as many suggestions as possible. i was being vague on purpose. and like ive said before in this thread, ill sort through the recommendations myself. dont worry guys, im looking for a lot of recommendations. i want to see whats out there.
