I couldn't tell you what mic to use, but a cool technique to mic/record bass is to hang a thick balnkect over one end of the mic stand about 3 feet away from the cab. Set the mic close to cab about 8 to 14 inches away. For some reason, im not a doctor, the sound is a little more controlled and warmer.
