Bass mute systems..

Are there more than one company currently manufacturing and selling a bass (string) mute system? I'm thinking of purchasing one but not sure THIS:

Yes, a lot of people here have enquired to the maker about those particular devices to no avail. He appears to have been abducted by aliens; problematic as it seems he was a one person show. No one that I know of on TB has found another similar device on offer and most seem to revert to foam weatherstrip.

Do a talk bass search for 'patton pad mute'. Someone here on tb has a wife that custom makes mute pads for fifteen bucks. Good reviews, look nice. I'm on my phone or I'd post a link for ya.

I just cut a piece of packing foam and place it under the strings at the bridge. Cheap - no, free - and works like a charm. Well, as long as you don't need a quick on/off switch. The thicker the piece, the stronger the mute effect.

Please someone capitalize on this need! Everybody wants one! I'm going to replace one of my basses soon with a custom and I really want something similar to a BassMute installed from the get-go. I'm sure there could also be some improvements on the design as well, especially in intonation, ease of installation, and in the availability for 6 and 7 strings basses. The original design was very innovative and shouldn't be forgotten.
