Double Bass Bass Mute

This was more of performance situation, and I am not sure if anyone would agree with me on this, but...

I am playing the Menotti opera the Consul right now. I don't have a mute and didn't have time to order one. I had some red oak laying around and tried to fashion one, but no go. So I was looking around the house thinking of what I could use to the mute effect.

I settled on trying a piece of memory foam (about 5"x1 1/2"x1 1/2"). I was really happy with the sound I got. I just wedge on the into the space between the DG and AE laying over the DA on the upper side of the bridge pressed as close to the bridge as possible. There was no pitch effect and the sound is pretty cool and airy.

Anyway...Yeah.
