Well I'm a guitarist... and I think you should try both out. I'm going to start learning bass soon (once I build my own), but guitar really is the thing for me.
Like it's been said, it all depends on what's right for you, and you won't find out unless you try right? I love all the chordal things you can do on guitar, and chords with the melody at the same time. Rockin' out on an electric is fun too, but I mainly play/write clean stuff. In the 6 years I've been playing I've never had the desire to play any super fast solos... I think a lot more can be said with a few well placed notes
Try them both out and see which one feels right. Or just do both!!!
