Shot these with my cheap pocket camera.

Okay, so I do video production for a living, so I've got some lights handy, so I played with 'em this weekend:

First, my shots inspired by Star Trek:

yeah, I know my bass needs a bit of a dusting...

this one has a hard light almost 90 degrees to the right side:

the shadows that are under each string are actually caused by the string to the right, so the shadow under the E string is caused by the B string...

this one had a soft light more or less head on:

I bumped up the saturation and contrast to really make the fingerboard pop.

both basses together:

I have a soft key light on both basses, and then a hard fill light just on the fretless to make it a little brighter so it will photograph with the white bass better. And one of my cats, Little Girl, had to make an appearance.

Here's an iPhone photo of what the setup looked like, featuring my other cat, Roscoe:

Yes, both of my cats are named after my basses...

And finally, Roscoe Film Noir:

I like this one because you can see the grain on the bass better than you can in most other pictures. This one is a hard light with the barn doors open to just a small slash of light.

Any photoshop-like adjustments I made were in iPhoto, so I only had basic control over stuff like saturation, contrast, and levels. I didn't do anything too crazy to any of these photos.

Except for the fact those basses are backwards, these are some awesome pics of your Roscoe basses! :bassist:
