Between those Id pick the Dean. I would not concider the sx basses at all. You should also check out local stores used dept. You might get lucky and find nice bass by Ibanez, Esp Ltd, Peavey, etc that sells new for $300 usd for bear your price range.

+1 you might be able to find a very nice bass used vs an "eh" bass new.

Both of those will probably drive you nuts within months, and have zero resale value if you quit or move up.
An SX is a better choice by far.

$150 isn't much when you need an instrument and an amplifier, plus all the other stuff.
A decent bass is more important than the amp at first, because you don't want to be fighting it while your hands are getting into shape.

Used gear is a great way to go.
Look for a Squier bass and a Peavey amp on Craig's List, and maybe have a garage sale or something to increase your budget.

Agree with checking into used basses in your area. I can load up craigslist right now and find at least a dozen basses for sale in that price range better than either of these. Quality is usually an issue with a bargain bass in this category and some of the reviews reflect that. I just shopped around and the only bass in that price range I can find that I would even consider would be this:

$179.99, a little more than what you've posted but check the reviews. For me an Ibanez sound gear is the perfect starter bass on a budget.
