Hi, maybe this has been answered on some other thread but I can't seem to find it. I'm a music student in Austria and I'm writing my bachelors thesis. I think a lot of the interviews I'm looking for will be found in the older issues of Bass Player Magazine, but I don't know if there is an online archive or if it is even possible to access it in Europe. If anyone has any info it would be greatly appreciated!

Bass Player magazine no longer exists and OI gave mine away years ago. Any archive would have to be uploaded by someone, and I expect copyright issues would prevent that.
I suggest that for whatever thing/person you wish information on/from, you Google search for them and add "interview/s."

Music Index gives citations to articles published in over a hundred music periodicals. It might help you find the volume and issue numbers of particular articles that you need. (That's its purpose.) I don't know whether or not you'd need to access it through your local library rather that simply searching it online. It might very well require an expensive subscription.
Once you have the citations, your library could probably request photocopies via interlibrary loan, from whichever libraries own the physical copies.

Music Index is one of the old H.W. Wilson print magazine indexes, of which Reader's Guide was the first of the line. These all went online decades ago, and (a decision I do not agree with) most libraries purged their print volumes of all the Wilson indexes. For something as specialized as Music Index, probably only a university library would have a subscription.
I think you're correct about only academic libraries having it. Some larger public libraries do offer access to the databases which replaced print journals and indexes, but there aren't many.

This is true. I know about the indexes thing because I worked in a university library for thirty-six years and witnessed (and regretted) the abandonment of print for digital. (It should have been both/and rather than even/or, IMO.) But from where I live the closest large public library that might have Music Index is the main branch of Birmingham Public Library.
I'm looking for electric bass players who played straight ahead jazz, like Anthony Jackson, Jeff Andrews, Steve Swallow, Bob Cranshaw and so on
I’ll see what I can find(while I don’t have a complete collection, I haven’t tossed mine); it will take a while. Check with Downbeat Magazine as well.
