Bass Pod Or Somthing alike

Im looking for somthing that has a usb out to record to a computer and also has some amp modeling/svt overdrives. So far the bass pod has been my number one intrest. But then I have heard that the Sansamp has much better amp modeling sounds then the pod. Im just not sure if the sansamp works like a bass pod to record. Any other units I should look into that would work for me?

sansamp is a great unit for sure. if you search this forum you'll see there is much love for it. but it doesn't have usb on it. the bass pod will give you a lot more options tonewise, and tons of effects to mess with. whether or not it sounds "better" is up to you. you can easily test drive the bass pod at your local guitar store. if you decide you like the sansamp better all you need to do is find some type of preamp/interface that has either xlr and/or 1/4" in and also a usb out on it. then you could plug the interface into your computer and the sansamp into the interface. check musiciansfriend for options. an example is something like this:

I also own the M-Audio Jam-Lab. It's a great interface, for simply getting a signal into the computer (very cheap too). However, in my experience, you need do some post-editing, because the raw wav file, I've found, to be a little on the quiet side. Other than that, it's fantastic.

I've had the original and xt bass pod and now the x3 and the quality of tone has gotten progressively better as apparently the processors used have improved. The original pod required software discs to do what L6 calls deep editing, the xt doesn't and you can do whatever editing is to be done on the unit itself but you can download a computer version for free.

Never had the RBI but it's my understanding it's basically a rack version of the BDDI, if that's so then to me compared to the pod, it only puts out variations of one sound and isn't modeling at all. The pods defintetly have the USB connection but a lot of the used ones don't come with them for whatever reason - strange since they're a freak plug that fits nothing else on the pod end.

Since the x3 has come up the used xt's have gone down in price considerably but seems a lot of guys have been impressed with the Berhinger V-amp which is pretty cheap. Never had it and wouldn't know.

I have the guitar Podxt and i use it on my recordings with my bass and i don't have the bass model pack either. I do have the other three model packs that i use though. You can get some pretty good sounds out of the Podxt for bass without the model packs. if you check out this guy:Link Removed
he uses the regular podxt on all his recordings for bass. i have asked him questions before and his bass tone sounds pretty good for the podxt.

Thnx for your suggestions guys, Ive been looking on ebay for a used bass POD XT, some good prices, but most of the used ones dont seem to include an adapter for the USB. Anyone know where I can find an adapter that would fit with the pod xt?

Also, ive been looking into the Behringer BDI21, which has one of those xlr outputs. Now im wondering, what type of ¼'' TS or balanced xlr adapter would work from going Bass>BD121>Computer. Any links for any of the mentioned adapters would be very helpful, im kind of a newbie when it comes to recording...

That jam lab thing seems to get alot of bad reviews from what ive read. Do the reviews do justice for the jam lab?

I was just on Ebay looking at pods and a seller intimated the USB was a somewhat common connector used on some cell phones and cameras. I'm guessing there's something to that cause I found one in ebay under USB cables and it would explain why so many pods are resold without one. My dig and phone don't have a USB connection like that though.

As far as I know the best way to run into a computer is through a USB port. Going through a phone jack or line in typically leads to complications but it can be done and sometimes without complications.

I have a Bass Pod XT Live model, and it's definitely great. I really enjoy all that I can do with it (and there is a ton of options). Some of the effects and models don't sound quite as good as others, but I would recommend the product overall.

There are a couple other things you can do with the USB port, such as control your pod from your computer and import some (limited and mostly just novel) tones that other users have uploaded. The actual USB chord is just a generic USB adaptor that connects a variety of external hard-drives or devices. You could easily match it up at your local radioshack or Futureshop.

It might be an idea to purchaces the brand new Pod that is out as it has Guitar, Vocal AND bass effects and models and is designed for all three. Then again, with the price of the older pods coming down it might be worth it to buy one of those.

One more advantage that the bass pod has is that you can split your highs and lows through two different channels to send to a sub or wherever. One dissadvantage is that it only has 1/4" outputs, no XLR.

I bought a Bass XT Pro (rack mountable)demo model from GS for $200 , nothing wrong with it at all . I like the Head and mic'ed Cab emulations , great for recording purposes.
