Bass Ramp Wood Choice

Has anyone made their own bass ramp ala Gary Willis-specifically for an acoustic electric bass? I have a AE Breedlove, as well as a electric G&L in swamp ash. Just wondering what tone woods were used and to what effect. I have some birds eye maple I was considering using. Softwoods seem like they would deaden the tone.

It won't affect the tone on an electric solidbody, and likely won't affect the tone at all on it acoustic/electric. Keep in mind that it won't be coming in direct contact with the bass- it will be attached with double stick tape. Even ebony ramps are very light, and if you have one made out of maple, it will likely add less than an ounce. I wouldn't worry about tonal effects.
