Bass regret.

Sparkle sky blue w roasted neck and ebony fb. What actually happened was someone on here bought a Fodera from me and then briefly acted like they intended to return it. I indicated that wasn't an option, but they indicated they'd go to PP about it (which sides w the buyer and I couldn't cover that cost). So I returned the Cutlass (which was truly outstanding) and of course a week later the person was like "yeah actually I love this thing!".

Ah well, no beef about it. But I def wonder where that bass is.

Sold a Rick 4001 (1975). The thing was in bad shape and I sold it for pocket money. I so should have invested in restoring it instead! It would be a great instrument, or at least I could have made a huge profit off it.
I feel a deep pang whenever I see a Rick today.

It’s a Musicman 30th Anniversary Stingray 5. I had owned a couple of these and sold them (for a tiny profit) bc they were usually a little heavy. But then I stumbled across this one with a rosewood fingerboard (all the others had flame maple boards) and it was a featherweight 8lb 8oz. It was a perfect bass for me.It played, sounded and felt amazing.

Sadly, this was at the height of my GAS and my mindless buying/selling of instruments. I was always looking for the next bass, not appreciating what I had. And in most cases, that was fine. But in my selling fury, I let this one go and have regretted it ever since. I even reached out to the guy who bought it to see if he’d ever sell it back. He kindly said, “No.” But the subtext (at least in my mind) was “Only an idiot would sell a bass this nice!” :sorry:

Anyone else have regrets on a bass you never should have let go?

Maybe now you might understand how serial killers feel about "the one that got away".

But seriously, I already have regrets and I've not even properly begun learning to play bass yet. You'd be shocked if I admitted how many basses I have previously bought, but currently don't have any, before even learning to play one.

All I can say is, it wasn't THE only perfect bass for you, you just remember it that way. Like an old relationship, that you have fond memories of, but that's only because you choose to remember it that way. Maybe if you had kept it longer, you might have started to find some flaws and resent it.

Anyway, you'll have other opportunities and it sounds like you won't be so quick to move on and then have any regrets.

I wish I still had this one. However, there's a back story. On another bass discussion board, a member had just lost his job and was offing some gear. I bought this one from him because he was in dire straits. It was SWEEEET! About a month later, his luck changed and found a new job which was better than the one he lost and things were looking up for him in a big way. So...I offered him buying it back from me for the same price I bought it. He was very grateful. Plus I felt like he sold it as an act of desperation. MAYBE, that simple act of kindness will get me into heaven!

If you want to get rid of buyers remorse , buy a similar bass back… you’ll end up selling it.

I originally regretted selling my 1966 guild starfire II, but then I bought one last year and couldn’t bond with it so I sold it. I also bought an epi jack Casady and I bonded with it from the start.

Your tastes will change with time. I used to be all about MIA vintage basses , now I’m all about squiers.

About 8 years ago I sold my mk3 Wal 5 string Custom. If I'd kept it, I could have sold it today for twice what I got back then.

That's a regret right there!

I kicked myself when I saw what those basses are going for these days!!
