Bass resonating

When I hit my E-string hard, the guitar starts to rattle, if hear it right, it comes from the area arround the bridge or lower pick-up.

Does somebody know what this can cause?

* Already checked theamp, it's not the amp
* It's an squier VM J-bass

I had the same problem with my VMJ. The problem was that there are no slots for the saddles to sit in on the bridge so they would drift together and rattle against each other. try pushing the e string saddle away from the a and see if that fixes the problem temporarily. I ended up replacing my bridge with a BA 2.

So, what is the best solution
Don't have the money for a new bridge right now

Set of Allen wrenches, a no. 1 Phillips screwdriver, and patience to troubleshoot. Let's just hope your truss rod is OK and not broken....

How is the string wound on the post? If it has not been wound going "down" when you tighten the post, the tension on the nut may be too low causing the rattle on the open-string E.

If the tuners have hex nuts that tighten them to place, they can have the thread stripped on over-tightening, making them loose and rattly.

On the open string, the vibration can cause the truss rod to resonate and hit the side of the truss rod cavity. The truss rod nut can be loose. Tweak the truss rod!

The bridge screws, any and all of them, can be loose.

Loose straplocks often resonate.

Something in the electronics cavity can rattle slightly.

If it still rattles, take it to the tech.

this is my bridge..

I had the stock Fender wanna-be 7250s on my VM too and the open E rattled.

Just a fluke maybe - but it never returned after new Elixir Nanos were put on it.

The stock bridge is just fine for me - but you could change it for one that has the grooves on the adjusters, but I've never had trouble like I said after some decent strings made it go away.
