bass shopping: small bodied basses?

Ibanez has plenty of small bodied basses. My GSR200 makes my Jazz clone look huge

Try an Aerodyne P or J if you get the chance. I just got one, and I will tell you that I noticed the difference immediately between my Standard J and the Aerodyne.

You really owe it to yourself to check out the Birdsongs. They are short scale, small bodied, exquisitely made basses with a big sound. Here is an example; my fretless in Mesquite:

Agreed. I’ve got two non-NT Razors. They’ve got exceptionally light, basswood bodies. Sadly, Dean discontinued the Razor basses a few years ago, so tracking one down these days can be a bit of a challenge.

A MM Sterling is also a great suggestion. I almost bought one to use with my Yamaha - but then I bought a Modulus Q5. Sorry, tangent.

The first thing that popped into my mind was the Pedulla Rapture. Downsized, attractive, and very nice basses. I don't know the weight though. You could check Pedulla's website.

Edit: I just saw your budget limit of $800.00. I'm not sure what the Rapture's go for on the used market, but I suspect that it's higher than $800.00.

Someone mentioned Fender American Deluxe Precision, and either that or the Am. Dlx. Jazz is a good choice, especially with the light ash bodies. Both are downsized relative to standard P and J basses, and I had a 1999 Am. Dlx. P (ash) that weighed under eight pounds. Of the two, I prefer the J.

Spector Legends have small bodies and the curved back that fits your body. Very comfy. The older Fender Zones/Lites had smaller scalled down bodies as well. MTD makes the most comfortable bass I've ever played and the bodies are very ergonomic. Thin front to back as well.
