I totally agree that everyone is entitled to their opinion and that there will be different ones on this or any forum. The problem is in the way that some people express their opinions. There are proper and tactful ways to get your point across. However, sometimes people on this forum can come across as rude and arrogant. Fortunately the person I had the biggest complaint about is no longer an active member!

I've been posting here about a month and haven't seen the behavior the OP describes at all. I'm shopping for a P bass myself, and have posted on two p bass threads in the past day or so. I don't recall any Stingray players showing up on those threads to denounce the P bass.

I don't know about anyone else but I take what I want to and leave the rest. I have enough things to worry about in my own life, I'm not going to waste my time and energy getting bent out of shape because someone wants to be a "snob" here on the forum. Now, I can say that I have gotten rattled by some posts in the past and still do. Heck, one of my first posts ever on TB I got an attitude with someone because I thought he was being a jerk to me. The difference between then and now is I've learned that the only opinion that I'm going to change is mine here on TB. I've learned a lot from TB and some really great people. That's why I take what I want to and leave the rest. It's not always easy doing this but at the end of the day, I'm on this end of the post, no one else. Besides, ITS ALL relative. To each his or her own. Someone wants to be a snob, go ahead, I don't let it ruin the great and inspiring experiences I've had and have on TB. I'm very happy with what I have and am grateful for it and the forum.

The P with flats is a classic tone, but far from the only tone on the planet. Like anything, it has finite limits.

It's a lot better now than it used to be when I joined. Still, even on the worst day, TB is exponentially better than most guitar forums. Dogmatic curmudgeons...and they're mods, too! :eek:

If I took all the conservative/religious/political/snob threads to heart, I would have never joined or started lurking years ago for that matter.

Use TB as the nice resource it is and don't engage the trolls. There are plenty of people on here that are nice and not constantly trying to be snobs with an agenda.

Either that or end up being some sad tone wood obsessed, miserable, snob, brand shill, trying to put everyone down or justify some personal belief so you can sleep at night. :)

I've got to second this one... these sorts of responses to posts are a little uninviting... unkind... unfair... especially to new members. Let people rekindle conversations if they'd like! Is there some harm in letting them do so?

As for gear snobbery... sure, I have my opinions... but, they're often best kept to myself (unless I'm in a thread where I'm pretty certain we're all on the same page).

As my grandma used to say... "To each, his own."

Respect.

I saw a killer band open for the Winery Dogs last night, Sixxis, the bassist played a green Peavey Cirrus, and he was pretty freakin' awesome! Great sound, advanced technique, really entertaining player.

Go to the bathroom between songs, I hear some guy talking about the band and ther bassist..."And he's playng on a PEAVEY, for chrissakes..."

Like that made any difference, LOL! The guy obviously knew his way around that Peavey, and played the heck out of it. But I guess the Winery Dogs show brought out every band (and bass) geek within a hundred miles to see Sheehan and Portnoy tear it up.

I OPENLY Admit to Not Only Being a BASS Snob......but a Snob in almost all Categories of Life. :) Here's my Basic Method of Obtaining Eternal Joy. Please note that this will annoy MANY.

I Look at posts for exactly what they are.... and one of you hit it right on the head above....MANY posters Wouldn't be Caught DEAD Saying the things they say Online if they were in a Situation Where they Might get Popped in the Nose if they said it in "Real Life....in Public". I Pay ZERO Credence to those who don't use their own Name in what they Write. Why? Cuz I Remember when we Communicated on "Lists" and someone who worked at one company got paid to sit and poke other companies all day long. If you Can't use your own Name on Forums, I tend not to take You too seriously. :)

Having said that I'm a Snob, a Peaceful One, my Current "This Week's Fave Bass" is a Korean Danelectro Longhorn......the Thing is absolutely AMAZING. <3
