I’m so confused. Sometimes I want my bass stand on my right side. Sometimes I want my bass stand on my left side! I’m so tired of trying to make a decision! Which side is the best side to put my bass stand so I don’t have to deal with such a mind numbing choice before every show???? Please help!!!! I can’t sleep at night until this stressful issue is FINALLY resolved by someone other than myself!!!!! Arrrgggghhhhh!

Bass stand on my right or left?

I'm a righty and it's easiest to have it on my left. The way I take it off, it ends up in my left hand, so it's easy to place it into the stand. 
Depending on the stage and band set up. . . . either.
I always put my stand where I thought it wouldn't get knocked over. . . . until the drummer knocked it over, even though it was in the safest place on the stage!!
Now I put my bass in the gig bag when ever I'm not playing it. It's the only drummer and/or idiot proof place on the stage.

Place the guitar stand right in front of your amp. You’ll always be able to find it because it’s in front of your amp, and you’ll always know which amp to use because it will be right behind your bass, if you remembered to bring it, and put it on the stand
Just put it behind you way out of the way. Then it doesn't look dumb on stage and you don't have to decide.
If the stage has a lighting rig overhead, you might be able to suspend it upside down directly overhead.
Im not sure how you would get the stand to operate correctly against gravity, but some sort of tractor beam or collection of strong magnets might work.

NEVER take a bass stand to a gig. That way, when you’re on a break, you can walk around with your bass and everyone will know you’re in the band.

Good poser! I have to admit that after being a bassist for over 50 years, I’ve never entertained the though of having a bass stand exclusively on one side or the other. Which side is largely determined by the amount of space allowed. And that changes from gig to gig. Preference wise, placed stage right by the drummers high hat, and close enough so no one can walk through there.
OP, I would trade the things that keep me up at night for the things that keep you up at night in a NYC minute.
