Bass Suggestion

Here's my dilemma. I'm playing through an Eden rig - WT550, 410XLT and 210NeoXST. I'm currently on a 5-string MIM Jazz Deluxe.. i'm looking for a passive 4 string.. that's just the sound i'm after. But I need some suggestions as far as price/quality.. I don't want to spend more than a grand. I can get discounts on Fender, Gibson (though i dont want a gibby), Yamaha Ibanez & ESP.. I like the sound of warwicks but they're expensive.. Any good brands out there that are low key? i'm looking for tone and playability. It doesn't have to be beautiful. I just need some suggestions pls & thx.

Ibanez Soundgear Series. I play one, i believe its an SRX 700? anyway, it has great tone control, nice action. the active pickups add an awesome edge to the overall sound of the bass. hope this helps.

my MIM is active and I always use it in passive - I just like the sound.. So i'd rather cut out the active all together and avoid the battery situation. I was thinking Carvin, doing another MIM fender 4-string and modding it also.. I'm just hoping on some bass info i'm not hip to. I'm all about the un-brand name yet amazing instruments :I
