Bass synth module...?

Okay, I couldn't think of another forum to put this in...

I play bass (clearly), and I have a old MIDI "Keytar" that works just fine... So I have been thinking of adding it to the mix for those songs that just gotta have synth bass parts...

My question is: do any of you cats know what's currently out that is a good MIDI synth module for bass - something that is rack mount, has some cool bass sounds but isn't insanely expensive?

I don't know what the current options are, but the old E-MU Proteus variations (they had ones specifically for techno, world beat, rap, and orchestral) had some great bass tones and you can pick them up super cheap sometimes. Another funky option is one of the many TB303 clones in rack form.
