Bass tone: opinion

I recently bought a GK 400RB, and have plugged it straight into the soundcard IN. Can anyone provide feedback on the bass tone? about 5 seconds into the sample there is bass and drum only section. I couldnt provide an extended version due to file size limits

I am primarily a guitarist, but want to get more into bass playing so was wondering how this would rate as a bass tone, and what i could do to improve it

This is a bedroom recording, but have some decent equipment

when you say crisper, you mean dial in some more mids?

i'm actually just using an old ibanez SR400 i got cheap secondhand.. i want to eventually get a spector euro4lx

I'm using Ernie Ball regular slinky Nickel strings.. i havent experimented with strings, or basses for that matter. I'm pretty new to the world of bass

I'm a kind of guy that likes his mids, and that mid growl always adds that extra aggression in a bass/drum break, I would dial your high mids up alittle more and your low mids up about a quarter more, but thats my opinion, I'm in no way an expert bass player, or pro at bringing out bass tone (I usually just find by experimenting) so give my opinion a try and see how it comes out, and I agree bring it up from the mix just alittle more.

btw the song sounds really cool, is it all you?

thanks for that, will give it a try..

yeah its all me.. its just a song idea i was playing around with the other night. The drums are a vst plugin called ezDrummer. But i did all the guitars and bass..

no i dont use a keyboard, there are a standard set of beats.. i find the one that i like and works with what im writing, and add it to the midi track, this drags in about a bar worth of drum beat.. i then double click on this, this brings up all the midi hits for each drum part. These can be moved around and modified to suit.. then i copy and paste the beat to build the drum part. I can then modify the copied beats to give some variation (if can be bothered)

I can see where youre coming from.. i was wondering too whether it cuts through enough.. others have mentioned previously to add some more mids possibly..

Before messing with the tone - I think it's pretty close actually - you need to mix the bass a little more forward. I'm not much into the genre at this point it's all a bit lofi. The dry'ish drums and make a nice foil for what I can hear of the bass. I'm not listening on decent speaks - it may be that on a decent set of monitors you are closer to right. Tough call... anyway sounds like you're having fun and leaning. Good on ya!

^thanks, yeah its been mentioned before to bring the bass up in the mix.. though genre aside, i'm just trying to guage from bass enthusiasts what they think of the bass tone, as i am a guitarist and new to bass.. ultimately i want to improve my bass skills and have a style in the vain of Rob DeLeo from STP, who is influenced by Jamerson :)
