Bass took a stage dive and broke my heart

So...
Rain sucks. Outdoor gigs are becoming our albatross.
So the rain came, and we all began scrambling to move equipment. I clearly didn't secure my bass on it's stand first:

The good news? That's the upper edge leaning towards the back.
What do you think? Drummer says wet sand but I've never done that and I fear I'll make things worse. Glossy black nail polish?

There are many threads here on TalkBass about repairing dings like that. You are not the first person this has happened to! The repair isn't difficult, just requires a little patience and care. Basically, you fill the depressions with CA glue, making a lump above the surface. Then file and sand it down to flush and smooth. Then fine-sand it and polish it up to a gloss. Done carefully, the repair will be nearly invisible. Which will bring you inner peace. You can do it yourself with minimal instruction and tools. Or, a Luthier can fix it for you.

We've made a lot of money from accidents like this. Made a lot of friends, too.

Broken headstocks, dings, dents. As Bruce mentioned, drop fills are not hard to do. Mostly takes time and patience.

In the future:

  1. From stand to hard shell case.
  2. Case on floor.
  3. Because the case won't fall off the floor.
Respectfully submitted.

I sure hate for you to see my basses. I don’t purposely bang them around but my three stage Jazz basses have seen some mic stands, cymbals, etc….. my one Ric has seen some ring and watch wear…….
I’ll just say all of my basses have many dings, belt rash, & whatever. So I feel it’s just part of using it. Your bass has a story I guess and maybe will get you more to talk about. Have at it !!
