BassBuzz

I steered my nephew towards BassBuzz after he told me he was having wrist issues thanks to Scott Devine's 'always keep your thumb in the middle of the neck and the bass at same height as you are sitting down' crap. He like his uncle has long arms and big hands for only being 5'9". We both have the arms and hands of someone who's 6'3 thanks to everyone in the family being tall except the two of us. He lives on the other side of the country in the middle of nowhere so in person lessons not an option and I'm not a good teacher. So I thought I'd help him find a better online option than SBL. I checked out BassBuzz and I thought he did a better job with beginners than many of the others. Well, he reported back to me this week that he's making better progress, no more wrist pain, and a lot less frustration not having to sit through Scott talk for 15 minutes in a 17 minute video only to play a quick riff with no explanation or tab.

I’ve appreciated and benefited from all three of them. They each have their strengths.

That said, I’ve settled in to using Mark’s site as the main framework for learning and supplementing as needed. He’s organized, thorough, and has an extensive range of free material available.

It’s definitely a great time to be learning bass!

Well, the 4th quarter is beginning, time for you to choose your next bass ;)
Done! A Gretsch G2220 short scale!

I was going to grab a Kalamazoo Bass 30 found in the local classifieds to use as low volume practice amp at school... but I had to pair it with a new bass!

The Bass 30 is way too quiet and muddy (yes, I had read comments here about it but didn’t expected it to be... so quiet!). Sounds good used with my Alembic F2B clone so I’ll have to mod the preamp stage methink.

The Gretsch sounds really good and is fun to play. Stock strings are too much « zingy » so I’ll probably put Chromes instead.

Now, having to improve my technique...

Didn't take you long. You're probably thinking of getting a fifth until the end of the year ;)

What are your 4 basses?

Are you BassBuzzing to improve your technique?
Yamaha BB234, Squier VM 77 Jazz, Squier VM Fretless used and the Gretsch.

Not much BassBuzzing but my left hand is much better (position and mute). I should view again BassBuzz basics to be sure I won’t have bad habits. Thanks for the reminder.

Yes, BassBuzz to prevent string buzz.

Nice collection... Say, how long are you going to hold out until you get a P-bass? ;)

So....I have seen several online tutorials that preach that, as well as my Method Book series.....I too, have experienced a sore wrist in addition to pain in my thumb.

I'm awakening the dead (thread)!!! So, those that have completed Bassbuzz, can you share your thoughts on your personal progress when you finished the course? How long did it take you? In your opinion, is it worth the $$? Any insights would be appreciated!
