basscyclist thread picture thread

Currently looking at three bikes/frames. There's a giant STP, mostly complete, just needs cranks and a front wheel or maybe even just a rim. I'm pretty confident I could do that. The guy says it's medium, he's 6'2 and it fits him, I'm 5'9 though so it's a crap shoot.

The second one, a bare frame, it's a Rocky mountain from the early 2000s. I'm willing to build the thing up, heck it'd be pretty sweet to get it sand blasted and anodized before building up. It's a 15" frame though, and while I'm far from tall I'm not sure I'm that short, either.

The last one is a bright yellow specialized. Haven't spoken with the owner but it really just needs wheels and adjustment from the picture, the ad also says it's "medium".

I'm kinda leaning towards the giant, in all honesty. Less work, probably fits. That Rocky mountain could be good for my gf, though. Her CCM road bike is huge for her, tbh.

Three top brands, but no pics!

First ride of the year was a 30 mile gravel ride with snow in the local mountains.

Waking this thread up a bit, Jan is over, March is around the corner, I'm thinking of doing some bikepacking during a week off. Depending on the zones I might try to get some perch fishing in, too.

Anybody want to see pics of the build-up or just want some after pics of scenery and such?

So, I've figured out a route, link below. It's a little under 400km, so I figure I can budget 100-odd km per day for about four days. This will be over a week-off in March, so I'll have some fudge factor if I'm even slower than that. My main goal, having not biked farther than about 60km in one day, is to pace myself. Plus, you know, half of the reason to do this sort of thing is to chill out, slow down, and enjoy things for a change - take some brakes and soak in some scenery and such. With how hilly some parts are going to be, 100km is probably going to be PLENTY on ground.

It's also not terribly far from Kingston, so I don't feel too bad about having my GF drive myself and the bike up that way for the cost of a tank of gas and probably a nice dinner someplace - both to drop me off and pick me up. We share a car, and so this sort of thing needs consideration.

[This invalid link has been removed]

The bike? It's my CCM commuter - a department store bike I got used for a minimum of cash. I've posted the photos before, I won't post another "before" pic of the thing. I'll post an "after" pic of the thing loaded up with gear and ready to go.

With regards to packing - I won't go into detail on what I'm bringing right down to pocket lint. I might list a few interesting food items and probably explain some stuff about packing kit, but honestly most of it is pretty boring.

Waiting for total knee replacement on my left side. Looks like e-bikes are my future for some time to come...

Anyone on the PNW looking for a sweet full carbon road ride ? Super light and she flies down the road. Well maintained at my LBS. Low miles as I focused on MTB and then E-gravel years back. Listed locally at $2500. Consideration for Tb'ers

Ultegra 2x11, Dura Ace C24 wheelset, Thomson Masterpiece seatpost, 3T bar, un-cut steerer tube
only non-carbon item is the Stem...

Speedplay zeros are moving to my stationary bike

Will also be selling a Devinci Django. Also a full carbon and carbon wheelset build soon.

By "some time to come" are you talking weeks, months, years...? Per doctor's orders?

I ask because, as a cyclist who has only half-jokingly been telling people "I'm one epic ride away from needing a total knee replacement!" for several years now, I'm curious as to what the recovery is like. I have several cycling acquaintances with TKR who are back on the bike, but I don't know how long after the surgery they were off. I also have several cycling friends who underwent a hip replacement, and they all wound up back riding within a few months...not sure if the recovery/prognosis for riding is more promising for hips than knees?

Anyhow, good luck with your surgery! That's a sweet looking R3.
