I was over in Ireland last week. A friend asked me do a checkup on her bike.
I took it out for a ride after that.

So this is the build as it stands, I've got all the parts in away ahead of when I figured.

I tried putting a set of v-brakes on n the front, but the little springs kept popping out from the sheer amount of tension, so I think I'll be using the cantis, the Vs were donors anyways, but this means those levers on the bars will have to come off, and I'll have to get some shifters too since the quick fire shifters are attached to those levers.

I've got some choices on the front derailleur - including the original Deore part, but I've only got one working rear derailleur. The seatpost could also be used to be cut a bit shorter, that's as low as it's going.

I've got a '84 Schwinn High Sierra with the rear brakes down there like that. Never seen that on the Treks.

Doesn't seem like a great idea.

Facing the ground, getting hit by rocks, dirt, and the force of the braking is pulling away the brakes from the frame.

How does it brake? Any difference?
It's not rideable just yet, unfortunately, I still need a chain, cables, and brake levers and shifters. I *might* try to just use the v-brake levers but in all honesty I've read that it's a bad idea with canti/straight pull brakes.

You can bet, however, that this thing will be posted when it's done.

Gorgeous view, gorgeous ride. Is that up around Gatineau? I'm sorry I don't know the area too well.

I hope the surgery went well, too.

Thanks pie_man! Got a couple of titanium screws holding my foot together. They’ll stay in permanently. Recovery is going slowly but nicely.

good guess! That’s the Ottawa side of the Ottawa river with Gatineau in the background to the left. The bridge in the middle background is the Champlain Bridge at Island Park.

It's pretty great living near a biggish river, tbh. I just kinda took the views I've seen from Ottawa and thought it looked oddly familiar I guess.

It seems like the fatbike is replacing the old school rigid MTB as the "all around beater."

I won't be following anytime soon, I'm just cheap. They are sweet rides though.

I was planning on having the fat bike to extend to winter riding. I got it in March so just bonding with it. My FS Santa Cruz hasn’t got much love this year! I’ve only been out on my road bike once!

Whelp, that trek is *almost* done. I got the chain on, the derailleurs - the original Deore front and a Deore XT rear that just needed a bit of love. Brakes are on, cables have been run, I just need a little dohicky for the straight pull brakes - which I've never had to think about because my other bike uses V brakes.

I'll also need to take about a half hour to fine tune the rear derailleur, but that'll be alright. I'm hoping to be about to grab the parts this week and take it for a 30km or two with some friends on the weekend.
