Hey guys, I was wondering if there is a certain bass-making brand or certain model of bass, known for it's sexy growl?

Pbass and stingray both come to mind with that midrangy growl
Ok, please don't hate on me for posting this song. This came through pandora for some reason, and THE BASS sound is SICK!

Again, don't listen to anything else. Although after listening to some other JT stuff, the bassist he has is pretty damn good. Gotta dig that growly tone though.

PBass Growl? I will respectfully disagree. Every PBass I have owned or played has had a warm classic tone to them. Jazz basses have much more growl. I am not a big fan of Musicman either. I have had 2 and both had dead spots on the fretboard. I think growl has more to do with pickups than the type of bass. EMG's seem to have the most growl. Find a bass that has them or change the pickups in your current bass.
With the right EQing, there is almost no other choice. The pbass has been the choice of plenty of bassist with"growly" tone. Although I was had mind more of a punk midrangy growl, not the growl he posted in this song.PBass Growl? I will respectfully disagree. I'm also with Kwesi, anything with bartolini buckers could prolly also pull off this tone.If anyone hates you for posting JT they either have bad taste... or none at all. The guy has massive talent and he has a habit of picking badass musicians. I met one actually, Kevin Walker, the guy's a beast.
For that kind of tone, there are actually quite a few basses that can get you in the area. Plenty of humcancelling (more than likely wired series) pickups could get you there, though they'll all have their own character. A Sadowsky M5-24, Warwick Streamer Stage II, Skjold, Roscoe, Elrick The list goes on and on really. I can get really close with my Bartolini equipped Tom Clement and Brubaker too.
