Basses meant to be Five Strings

And, let's not forget about string design. That might be one aspect that is overlooked when thinking about the actual instruments. No matter how good you make it, it's still going to sound relatively bad with a poor set of strings.

I like the 5-string Ibanez Soundgears more than the 4-strings. On a 4banger their necks are a little thin for me, but on a 5-string that thinness helps alleviate the stretch on the wider 5-string neck.

I absolutely agree with you! My wife's soon to be only bass is an Ibanez SR Prestige 5er. VERY comfortable ... even for her slightly-smaller hands.
