I think Rics and Thunderbirds are far and away the kings of this, sorry everyone else. They just "pop" for some reason.

You're from Seattle - where are you playing in shot?
I played a '73 4001 for about about 30 years - I truly regret selling that bass.
And my Purple Thunderbird
I dunnow. I think the only gear or name tag appeal is to other bassists and/or the band members, although in most cases they cannot tell a Fender from a Tail light.
For all intents, you can send in a recording of a bassline and the audience won't miss you at all - all they know is that there's a bottom note than makes them want to move, but other than that you can mail the performance in.
BUT if the bass stops - then all hell breaks out.
Ever notice that a TV camera only sees the lead guitar, the lead singer and maybe takes a fast pan past the drummer but you rarely ever see the bassist unless he's singing or comes on stage naked.
Forget that last option if the bass is big enough of the bassist is er, small - well, never mind.
Fire would also be noticed if the bass was actually burning.
But for flash, general bling and pure visuals, I think the Corvette of basses - Fender - is what would be most visible for the bright colors and plastic/chrome eye candy.

That's ALMOST what I was saying - fire is a great eye-catching device - but I left out sparkle-y lights.
