Basses you'd never buy new

with a so vast market of used/old gear these days, and so many site to search and buy them, I'm getting everyday a greater fan of used gear.
And then I started thinking, no way I'm gonna buy a new (insert brand) if I can get a barely used one for almost half the price.

For me, it's Fenders. No way I'm gonna buy a new one, if I can get an old one with already some mojo for much less than what they ask for a new one. Especially because lately I've been getting really angry at Fender, and I haven't been impressed by a Fender in a long time.

And then there's the opposite. Squiers are generaly either beaters or for begginers, so I'll always buy them new.
If I'm going for an expensive-ish bass that I want with some specific options or finish, and if it is some sort of dream bass for me, then I'll gladly give the money for a new one.

So how is it for you, any bass you'd never buy new?

I bought a used one If I'd never find a good cheap used one, maybe I'd get one new. But I did, so no new wicks for me

Nothing new for me.
I've never bought an new instrument and probably never will. For me, there's no reason to buy new.
1. It's much more money to buy new
2. Usually the only difference is cosmetics and I really couldn't care at all about having a shiny new instrument. I play them, not collect them

For me, used is just the way to go.

The only bass I have and will buy new are the Squiers. Good value, solid bass and they sound good as well.

But, everything else I buy used! I just bought a used new spec'd Fender jazz for under $700!!!! Monster bass. Not for $1100 new though. No thanks.

I would never buy a new bass for the same reason I will never buy a new car. Let someone else pay the full price and when they tire of it, Ill buy it for the discount.

I had a 5 string streamer jazzman that I bought in mint condition used. New it would have cost me $3300. When I tried to sell it I had to let it go after a year of being unable to sell for $1100. Thankfully I only took a $100 hit.

I would only buy new if I wanted a specific configuration and didn't want to browse the used market forever trying to find it.

i.e. my Sunburst Geddy Lee. Too new for there to be a used market.

I try to always go used. But I would go definitely buy used for any bass I haven't owned in the past.

Actually, I hate Thunderbirds. And Pepsi.

But Epiphone explorers are a different story And I'd stab myself on the belly for a Mayones Be Exotic or Patriot

haha it's so trendy right now to say "i'll never buy new" as if it's some sort of quasi-moral life decision. but if i like something and i think i can get a good deal on it, you can bet i'm open to the idea of buying it new. there are good deals to be found in the new market and ruling out that option seems like a mistake to me.

If I wanted a Fodera I wouldn't ever pay 8k - 11k for one. I'm not sure I would ever pay 6k for a used one either. So far the most I've paid for a new bass is 4K.

4k is still a lot of dough for me to spend on a bass. It'd have to be a really special bass for me to give 4k for it.
