Basses you'd never buy new

Love used basses, got a new SB5000 sold it and then got a used one.

Ric for one. I'd never buy a new one. Modulus, Gibson....even Fender I doubt I'd buy a new one. Old ones have more soul.

Pretty much the same boat as the OP and the first reply...I would never buy a new Warwick, considering you can grab them for around 1/2 off. However I am considering buying a Squier CV Precision at SOME point, and that might be a new purchase. For one, there's not a ton of used ones out there, and it's cheap enough anyway to go new.

Out of...the 9 or 10 basses I've owned, only the Ricky was new. I have no issues with used instruments what-so-ever as long as I can get my hands on them first.

warwick is a guaranteed used buy for me, considering how much they ask for them new, i sometimes wonder why anyone buys them new.

I've been burned on too many used basses. Some I could fix and have it turn out to be a good purchase. Most had issues (beyond cosmetic) though a couple really were "good as new".

I would much rather buy new if at all possible.

Probably a Fodera Anthony Jackson Presentation Contrabass. The list price is ridiculous, like $20,000. Sadly, it's one of my favourite basses of all time. But even if I could dedicate that amount of money to a bass guitar, I probably wouldn't just because the list price appears so grossly offensive. That kind of money could buy a performance car, I know where I'd be spending it! Id trawl for a used Contrabass instead!

Interestingly, it takes us significantly longer to hand build one that it takes to build any performance car of which I am aware. Because everything is completely hand carved, you are looking at 90-100 hours of highly skilled hand labor per Presentation...
