"Bassic" Bassist

Trying to avoid those who play basic but have done some "out there" stuff[

- Hutch Hutchinson
- Joe Osborn
- Tommy Cogbill
- Carol Kaye
- James Jamerson (although his use of synchopation and chromaticsim gets brought up a lot)
- Chuck Rainey (let's just walk around)
- Lee Sklar

A lot of the newest guys are pretty doggone basic, but I think for a lot of them, it's just the limit of their inability, IMO. I don't even hear lines a lot of times.

My $00.02 worth:

-Duck Dunn (I think his picture is next to "pocket"
-Will Lee (check out his non-Letterman gigs)
-Hutch (the stuff with Bonnie Raitt is smooth)
-whoever played on the early James Brown and Marvin Gaye records

-Billy Sheehan......I'm sorry, I dozed off. What was this thread about again?
