It is funny how everyone says he is a punk bass player? I always thought he learned from alot of southern rock bands! But he was a good player i just couldnt stand to look at him i thought he was such a dork!

I totally agree... Duff's bass playing can't be compared to other more classic bassists, because it's not the same thing at all!! He is simple, yet complicated. I love that!!! His bass playing on Appetite is fantastic, IMO.

I've been listening to some old GNR last few days and really rediscovering how great Duff was (is). He has got one of the greatest rock tones. As for the comment earlier in the thread about him not playing on Appetite...I don't buy it. He has such a distinctive sound and it is the same on all the GNR albums.

I also really like how he grooves with the drums, laying ground for the guitar, but also finds ways to compliment the melodies. His basslines really power some great rock music. Almost makes me want to start playing with a pick.

Slash, Duff and Matt are now in a band called "Velvet revolver", along with rythm guitarist Dave Kushner (Suicidal Tendencies/Infectious Grooves) and vocalist Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots). Unfortunately, Izzy chose not to take part in the project after all, although he performed live with them once.

I definitely want to too... But now I think the album recording was delayed because of Weiland's troubles with drugs (again), so I don't know when it comes out.

If you like rock and roll stuff that kinda reminds of old GNR you can still check the Slash's Snakepit albums, It's Five O'clock Somewhere and Ain't life Grand ... Mike Inez is the bassist on Five O'Clock, and Johnny Griparic gets the low end on Ain't Life Grand. I've got them both, and I like them a lot.
